I am the most interested in thimbles:
- hand-painted,
- made of original materials,
- porcelain with signatures,
- from countries that I do not already have in my collection.
I am not interested in thimbles:
- with flagues, cities or countries,
- ceramics or porcelain with transfers produced in larger quantities.

Since 1997 I have collected thimbles. Souvenir thimbles, that is. Instead of bringing home loads of souvenirs that will just be stuffed in boxes and stored after awhile, I found that a thimble collection would be much better. They are small and easy to bring home, and put together, they are also decorative.
I love travelling, and my collection is slowly growing. Friends and family have found that a thimble is a great gift when they are out travelling to, so I have two displays in my living room – one with thimbles from places where I have actually been myself, and one with contribution from others.
The sad thing is, that I started collecting 'so late in life'. I am missing thimbles from several places I will hardly visit again, such as Seychelles, Mauritius, Bangladesh, China and Bulgaria.
This is a great site – and if anyone reading this actually have souvenir thimbles form any of the countries mentioned above, and are willing to sell them to me, please contact me on my blog.

Moja kolekcja naparstków liczy (na chwilę obecną) 250 okazów z 24 krajów. Najwięcej naparstków mam z Polski (130 sztuk), a wśród zagranicznych dominują te niemieckie (aż 58 sztuk). Jeśli chodzi o kontynenty to posiadam okazy z Afryki (Egipt i Tunezja) oraz z Ameryki Północnej (U.S.A. - Floryda). Jeśli zaś chodzi o materiały to w kolekcji są porcelanowe (w tym najcenniejszy dla mnie wykonany z porcelany miśnieńskiej), metalowe (w tym srebrny), gliniane oraz drewniane.
Mój pierwszy naparstek został zakupiony w Bieszczadach w 2002 roku, stał się on zaczątkiem kolekcji. Z racji mojego drugiego zawodu - jestem pilotem wycieczek - który łączy się z wyjazdami, większość naparstków zakupiłem sam, ale też sporo przywożą mi znajomi z wyjazdów.

My name is Marga, I am from Barcelona-Spain and I began to collect thimbles in 1998. It was by chance, I bought a Princess Elisabeth "Sissi" thimble in the beautiful city of Vienna. I habe been collecting thimbles since then.
I like all kind of thimbles, made of different materials. I am used to buy some thimbles when I go abroad and my friends are used to buy thimbles for me too.
Nowadays. I buy thimbles from well know porcelain patterns, for instance: Caverswall, Linder, Mayfair and so on.

Today I would like to introduce Zuleykha from Great Britain - the girl who creates awesome polymer clay thimbles in a millefiori technique.
I can honestly recommend these wonders, because I checked it by myself. Below you can see thimbles which Zuleyka prepared especially for me. I have chosen two specimens: one with sheep in sunflowers and second with a frog sitting at the top of the thimble dotted with rose
Thimbles have been hand-sculpted, baked, sanded and covered with a gloss glaze for protection. I think it is obligatory position for every collector. Thimbles are made very precisely, patterns and colour are beautiful and matched perfectly. I hope that my photos will show beauty of these little things at least to a certain degree.

I am Maria from Salamanca (Spain), I have been collecting thimbles since 2006. My collection is not very big because I do not want to have thousends of thimbles, I just want to have a few thimbles from each country. I create my own thimbles as well, I think they're cute =)

I collect thimbles, just like you. My collection is not very big yet, but still something new comes along. First I planned to collect usable thimbles, but in time also decorative ones started to appear.
There are various thimbes in my collection, silver one, leather, wooden, metal and porcelain thimbles. Each of them tells a story, I will share them with you.

Podobnie jak Wy zbieram naparstki. Moja kolekcja jeszcze nie jest zbyt liczna, ale ciągle przybywa coś nowego. Początkowo zamierzałam zbierać naparstki, które można używać. Jednak z czasem zaczęły przybywać również te ozdobne.
Mam w swojej kolekcji srebrny naparstek, skórzany, mam drewniane, metalowe i porcelanowe. Każdy ma swoją historię. Bedę o nich opowiadała.

There was a mistake on the blog. Thimbles of the World banners put on the righ side were leading to - also very attractive - blog of my collection. I am sorry for difficulties and little confusion. Na bloga wkradł się błąd. Umieszczone po prawej stronie banery Thimbles of the World kierowały na - również niezwykle atrakcyjnego - bloga mojej kolekcji. Bardzo przepraszam za kłopot i małe zamieszanie. Kody zostały już naprawione, dlatego bardzo proszę osoby, które wstawiły je na swoje strony internetowe czy blogi o zmianę, a wszystkich pozostałych oczywiście gorąco zachęcam do zamieszczania banerów!

Hello! My name is Anastasia. I live in Russia (in Moscow). I collect thimbles 2 years. In my collection thimbles basically Russian national crafts (Gzhel, Mstera, Paleh, Enamel, Zhestovo). Their big part wooden, are ornamented by paints.

I am in Cornwall on the west coast of the UK. I have been collecting thimbles for just a little over 3 years. I also have a blog Simply Thimbles. I started the blog in 2009 hoping to find like minded people who also collect thimbles.
My collection started with a little brown bear. He was the first thimble I ever bought as he was just so cute.
I have around 300 thimbles now. Some are bone china, some are silver and some are plastic. Most of them I have purchased myself, a few have been given to me. I also have a couple of rusty ones which look awful but I could never part with as they were my mothers.
Thank you for the invitation. I hope that there are more people joining soon as it is really good to hear from other thimble collectors and to see the lovely examples from other parts of the world.

Two days ago Yanibela adswered my request and has joned Thimbles of the World. Today I would like to start a new topic - presenting places where you can find thimbles and people who create them. That is why I thought that Thimbles of the World should not be only a place when you can show your collection, but also a place where you can find interesting new items and exchange thimbles as well.

My name is Agnieszka and I come from Poland. I am the founder of this blog and the digitabulist since 2004 and since that time I have been also looking for a place where collectors from all over the world can interchange their experiences conected with thimble collecting, place where they would share their knowledge, disscuss and make thimble exchange with each other. So, wecome to Thimbles of the World and let me start with a post about my collection.
My first thimble was a gift from my father. It was almost five years ago. He brought me from his Hungarian trip a little, porcelain gem made by Hollohaza manufacture. For a long time it was only a single gadget standing on my shelf. At that time I did not have an idea that there are some larger collections of such useless objects. Because, obviously, a thimble made of porcelain or glass cannot be used according to thimble's proper function.
Later, it turned out that besides typical, metal or plastic creations helpful in sewing or embroidery, amazing masterpieces exist; including wooden, glass, stone, ceramic, hand-painted, kilned, decorated with golden pigments thimbles and also those completely unlike classic thimbles - fugurines...
Currently, I have 937 thimbles in my collection. They come from four continents and over thirty countries. Please, visit my blog dedicated to thimbles. You will find there information about my collection, about concrete thimbles, manufactures and signatures. Surely, many plots are conected with porcelain, because of the fact that a majority of thimbles in my collection is made of porcelain.

My Thimble Collection
Mam na imię Agnieszka. Jestem kolekcjonerką naparstków i inicjatorką tego bloga. Naparstki zbieram od 2004 roku i od tego czasu poszukiwałam miejsca, w którym kolekcjonerzy z całego świata mogliby wymieniać doświadczenia związane ze swoim hobby, miejsca, gdzie dzieliliby się swoją wiedzą, rozmawiali, a także mogliby wymienić się naparstkami. A zatem, serdecznie witam na blogu Thimbles of the World (Naparstki z całego świata) i pozwólcie, że rozpocznę wpisem o mojej kolekcji.
Pierwszy naparstek podarował mi Tata. Z węgierskiej wyprawy przywiózł mi w prezencie małe porcelanowe cacko wytwórni Hollohaza. Przez dłuższy czas był to tylko jeden zbibelotów zdobiących półkę. Przez myśl mi wówczas nie przeszło, że istnieją jakieś większe pokłady takich bezużytecznych przedmiotów. Przecież naparstek wykonany z porcelany czy szkła funkcji swego metalowego czy drewnianego przodka nie może już pełnić.
Później, okazało się, że oprócz typowych, metalowych czy plastikowych naparstków pomocnych przy szyciu czy haftowaniu, istnieją także prawdziwe dzieła sztuki, wykonane z drewna, szkła, kamieni, ceramiki, ręcznie malowane, wypalane, nawet zdobione prawdziwie złotymi farbami oraz te kompletnie nie przypominające klasycznych naparstków - figurki...
Dziś, w swojej kolekcji mam już 937 naparstków. Pochodzą z czterech kontynentów i ponad trzydziestu krajów. Zachęcam do odwiedzenia mojego bloga poświęconego naparstkom. Znajdziecie tam informacje o mojej kolekcji, o konkretnych naparstkach, wytwórniach i sygnaturach. Pojawiają się także liczne wątki na temat porcelany, bowiem znakomitą większość mojej kolekcji stanowią właśnie naparstki porcelanowe.
